Birth & Postnatal Doula in Forth Valley

Birth is not only about making babies. It is about making mothers – strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength. – Barbara Katz Rothman

Matilda Klein psychotherapist & counsellor

I am a Mentored Birth Doula and Mentored Postnatal Doula registered with Doula UK.

I offer trauma-informed doula support during pregnancy, birth and the early weeks after, for women, birthing people and families. Support is available in person within a 30-mile radius, and online where appropriate.

I support a wide range of birth experiences, including home and hospital births, induction, caesarean birth, and births where plans change. My role is to provide consistent, non-medical emotional, practical and informational support throughout.

My work is grounded in calm, continuity, informed choice and non-judgement. I aim to support you to feel listened to, respected, and actively involved in decisions about your care.

As a doula, I do not provide medical or midwifery care, diagnose conditions, or give medical advice. I work alongside your midwife, doctor and wider care team, supporting you to feel informed, steady and heard.

My approach is trauma-informed and centred on dignity, consent and emotional safety. I work with all clients and families, and have a particular interest in supporting survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Before training as a doula, I already worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist supporting people affected by trauma. While my counselling work is separate from my doula role, it informs how I work: with care, respect, and an understanding of how important it is to feel safe and heard.

Important Questions & Answers

Are you a midwife?
No. I am not a midwife and do not provide clinical or medical care. I support you emotionally, practically and informationally, and I encourage clear communication with your midwife or doctor.

Can you support me if I’ve had a previous traumatic birth?
Yes. My wider work is trauma-informed, and I can support you to think through what may help you feel safer, steadier and more informed this time.

Do you offer therapy and doula support to the same person?
Possibly, but not automatically. These are separate services, and we would need to discuss boundaries, suitability and what would be in your best interests.

Do you support partners?
Yes. Doula support can include helping partners feel more informed, steady and involved.

Do you offer postnatal-only support?
Yes. Postnatal support can be arranged even if I did not support your birth.
